| Nantucket, II (Light Ship: dp. 670, 1. 135'5", b. 29'0", dr. 13'6", s. 10 k. cpl. 15; a. 1 4", 2 3") The second Nantucket, a wooden light ship built in 1907 for the Lighthouse Service, was transferred to the Naw by the Executive Order 11 April 1917 with the entire Lighthouse Service. In the Naw~ during World War I, she continued her former peacetime routine warning shipping away from Nantucket Shoals and aided in guarding nearby waters against U-boats. After peace was restored, Nantucket was returned to the Commeree Department 1 July 1919. |
