Northwestern Airlines
Northwest was incorporated in 1926 and began mail service that year between Chicago and the twin cities. In 1927 it began carrying passengers. In 1939 Northwest-now called Northwest Airlines Inc received its first DC-3's In 1947 Northwest began servicing the Orien with flights to Tokyo, Seoul, Shanghai and Manila. In 1960 Northwest introduced DC-8 service to Tokyo. In 1970 Northwest introduced 747 service across the Pacific. A year later it instituted trans Atlantic flights. In 1986 Northwest purchased Republicairlines. In 1989 Northwest became the first carrier to introduce 747-400 service. In September 1992 Northwest and KLM announded an agreement to unify there world wide network. |
