Exposition Hall Chicago, IL
June 3 to 6, 1884
Nominated: James G Blaine of Maine for President
Nominated: John A Logan of Ill for Vice President
With the opening of the Republican convention in Chicago substantial opposition existed to the nomination of Chester Arthur, the incumbent accidental president. The prevailing view was that it was the time of James G Blaine. Blaine led on the first ballot and he received the nomination on the fourth ballot.
